Can anyone tell me if this is designed to pick up digital Freeview channels through a portable tv with freeview built in. We took delivery of the tv yesterday, & plugged it into the caravan but it kept coming up on the OSD as 'No Signal Found'. I know we live in a pretty dismal reception area and was thinking it could just be our area, but if someone could confirm if the aeriel will or will not work with digital it would be a great help. If not, I think another shopping trip will be needed for a caravan satellite dish.
Thanks Darran, I think it is our area, our home tv aeriel reception is rubbish, so we now have Sky. Think I will just assume it is OK until I can test it elsewhere. Your caravan is similar year to ours so I am thinking that they may possibly have the same aeriels. Unless either has been replaced, or Avondale uses different ones to Bailey.
The Status 315 Omni directional aerial is designed for digital.
However its performance can kindly be described as "poor" and it will only work in areas that have a very good signal.
Their directional aerials are a great deal better but presently even the best of aerials will not get a viable digital signal in quite a lot of areas.
We use a Status 530 directional aerial and it usually works, but we carry a satellite dish and decoder for those times when it does not work and having TV is a "must".
Don't forget, at the moment the digital signal is turned down, as to run it at the correct levels causes problems with the analogue transmission. Things might improve when all the analogue goes.
We,ve got a 315 on our van & havn't been able to get any digital everon it only analogue & fm radio stations. Our MH had a 530 & we never had a problem getting a signal with that, so we are thinking of either having a 530 fitted or buying an aerial on a pole clamped to the jockey wheel, which is the cheaper option but means carrying a pole around with us, along with all the other stuff 'er in doors insists on taking, not sure which would give best picture tho' as the 530 would have a booster.
keep a eye on aldi neto, and lidel as from time to time they do a sat dish and box for about £60 of if you can get hold of a dish go for free sat a 1 off payment and you get hd free plus the caravan channel on 402 if i rember.

terry, it dont keep the rain out the effin status was part of the cause of damp in my van, good dollop of sikaflex 512 sorted it
the status is a great idea in theory no faffing about with trying to setup the aerial but unless you have a transmitter in the next field the omni is useless.
When you get to a campsite have a look around at how many people who have a status on the roof and are using a stand alone aerial for their tv, you'll be shocked, status aerials never seem to be much cop unless the signal is really strong

Sorry!
Here is me thinking I had the answer as to why so many vans are fitted with one.
If the Status 315 is no good at keeping the rain out, then please tell me what it is good for.
Nah!
Dont bother!

Firstly, there is no such thing as a digital aerial, any aerial is tuned to receive a particular section of the allocated frequencies. The intelligence carried on the carrier wave can be in many different forms, digital being just one. I also have a Bailey with a 315 fitted, have never even tried to use it as consider an omni directional, which is what it is, not really suitable for general use. Having said that, it might well work quite well in some areas. Always use a home made directional on a pole strapped to the jockey. Works for me !......Mick
