WE have this stabilser. yesterday when getting back to storage couldnt get it off the car (did eventually) but the handle on the right wont turn either way, so its not right I dont think its clamping to the towball. Iv spoken to the dealer and they say take off the stabaliser and bring to them but its half hour to the van then hour to dealer and we have only been out in the van twice (its a new stabaliser). Im not great DIY so bit scared taking it off the van, Iv done a search on here about this problem and it appears if you bash it helps, but surelly a new stabaliser should work better, it doesnt give much confidence.
Do I go to VAN and bash and see if works or take back ????
have the 1300 myself, to disengage you lift the handle on the left, then undo the round thing on the right a couple of turns before lifting the hitch handle in the middle
the one on the right only needs turning a couple of turns as it brings the pad close to the ball before the red handle clamps it
hmm, there is a ratchet on that knob so it dont turn too far, wee bit sticky methinks, try giving the end of it a tap with hammer as taking off the hitch can be a pain as can putting it back on if the damoper comes out too far
There is an issue with the AKS1300 if the knob is unscrewed too far it pulls the centre out. You need to get a punch and knock it back in through the centre of the knob. I am sure this is mentioned in the FAQ on the AlKo website.
yep thats the fella, basically Rob when you are putting it on turn the knob until it clicks about 3 times, then when taking it off about a couple of full turns loosens it, the main clamping bit is done with the handle on the left
oh and a couple of tips, make sure your towball is spotless clean before hitching up, any rust etc remove with emery paper (you have removed the paint from the ball havent you ) then a wee spray with brake cleaner, i spray the pads with brake cleaner too stops any squeeking. if you tow anything else with a grease head (trailers etc) clean the ball by wiping the grease off then a good spray with brake cleaner.
when uncoupling make sure the damper on the caravan is pulled forward by driving forward slightly first.failing to do this means the hitch is holding on very tight to the ball and will make removal difficult
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
nae bother matey, it is what ukcs is all about. unlike other forums we dont bitch or backstabb, we just offer friendship and advice. sure you will return the favour Rob
