Hi.had a call from storage site today.the majority of vans have been vandalized.People have been in tears. The weird thing is over 25 doors forced open but nothing stolen, ours too. Some vans had windows smashed. The site owners apparently told some customers that they cant put a security patrol on even for one night while people get their locks fixed.Another site up the road had 32 vans damaged we heard with nothing stolen. We also heard that the two sites are owned by the same family. We are gutted.

Thats terrible! Even being insured still lots of hassle and upset, wonder why they didn't pinch anything after going to all the trouble of breaking in?!
Sorry to hear about that - it baffles me how mindless people can be and the disruption it can cause in getting repairs etc which can take an age.
We too have had our van damaged in storage 3 times, not by vandals but because it's on a farm and careless driving etc.
We don't have any alternatives locally as far as I'm aware, but am about to post to ask the question again in case anyone know of anywhere in the Tring (Herts) or Leighton Buzzard (Beds) area.

Hi mzzy.rumours abound about some kind of vendetta against the site owners but we dont know.People who can are leaving in droves.
What an absolutely awful thing to happen, you and everyone else must be gutted. I was going to say the same thing myself - if both storage sites are owned by the same family it sounds like someone has a huge grudge against them, but it's not as if they actually own any of the vans stored there so what sort of twisted logic makes someone do that?

Hi tigermouse.word soon gets round the caravan fraternity.its not like they targeted 1 or 2 vans.there was about 25 on our site.People will remember this for years and avoid the place incase its targeted again. We have moved ours now.We have lost our money as they dont give refunds. But in the longrun they will lose thousands.

Yes, you have a point Dreadnought, I didn't think of it like that. What better way to hit someone where it hurts - in the pocket. Unfortunately it's the innocent caravan owners like yourself who also have to suffer. I hope you manage to get your van sorted out and find somewhere safer to keep it.

Thanks tigermouse. We are lucky. I have an uncle not 5 miles away with a smallholding who is willing to store it there for us.We stored it there originally with no probs whatsoever but we thought we would get some 'proper' storage. Its the ones we left behind at storage we feel sorry for with broken windows and doors hanging off and absolutely nowhere else to take their van tonight.

my last storage site was broken into and most of the vans were vandalised including our van, the only thing that was taken from my van was the waste water nylon cover, guess it was used to cart off the stuff they had stolen from the other vans, the sad thing though they did over £600 damage to my van by forcing the door with a jemmy, which cost me the excess of £100 on my policy.

sounds like a grude against the owners to give them a bad name for storage.
------------- the only silly question is the one you do not ask.
I notice that you are in Cannock, where are the storage places you are talking about. We keep our in storage in Staffs and wondered whether I should warn them?
Ooops posted my response to this on the wrong thread Duh!!
I've discovered where these sites are now- apparently there were three sites "attacked", I feel so sorry for those people who's vans were damaged but thankful it is not the site where we have just registered! All local sites have stepped up their security significantly, hopefully that will be the end of this mindless vandalism.
