You don't say which model your car is, my mate tows his van with a Picasso & he takes quite a lot of kit with him as well as four people.
A good dealer should give you good advice regarding the ability of your towcar to tow your intended purchase. As I understand it, they have an obligation to advise customers of a mis-match.
If you've any doubts, go along to your nearest public weighbridge, weigh your car & tow around 85% of its weight. This is only a guide weight but, what ever you do, don't tow a van which exceed the weight of your car, otherwise the tail will stand a good chance of wagging the dog.
