I have a coachman vip 520/4 1995 54lb.sq.in in the hand book it states 175R13 6Ply

I have fitted 175R13 8ply ( ok to do as i doubled checked with coachman)but by doing the maths ie max 65psi*(730 weight*2)/ 1340kg (26.4 cwts from hand book) i should be putting in 59.6 psi

What is correct, just double checking as

This is our first trip away 1week in Looe & 1week in Teighmouth with wife, 2 daughters & 1 friend plus 2 GSD fingers crossed i come back alive LOL

Confused again 54psi is only for 1262kg but if my van is 1095kg + say 210kg carrying, that than make the pressure of 58psi the maths way or from below 56.5psi and not 54psi as in the handbook

Tyre Size Load Index

175 R 13 C 97

PSI        36 40 44   48   51   54   57   60   62   65
Weight KG 912 995 1070 1139 1194 1262 1315 1368 1395 1460

After my last post I went out to buy a tyre pressure meter & guess what ATS only put in 38psi. I also spoke to two of them the other day both said about 40 ish should be ok. I think these tyre guys need a lesson in caravan tyre pressure's, it pays to double check.

by the way Wizard I was on your wavelength & put in 57Psi before I read your post thanks for your answer.

The handbook says 54psi and refers to 175x13 6ply tyres with a max load which happens to be the same as your van so that's correct.

The same size 8ply tyre requires more pressure than the 6ply for any given load, this then in your case means 59psi for the vans maximum weight.

You though are running it with less payload which means the 57psi you have chosen is correct.

(Note; Tyrelines website among it's other typo's, quotes the 8ply with a maximum pressure of 54psi, it should read 65psi)
