I store my tourer in france ( i dont tow anymore) . My insurance company have just told me that they no longer insure vans stored in france. ( theyhavebeen taken over) I cant find another company. Any help really appreciated.
A lot of people who store in France find a local insurance company. Could where you store it help with a suggestion. It may also depend on how old the van and as you no longer tow it, is it worth insuring, is there a requirement to insure it?
I think the majority of those of us who store in France insure through Towergate. Equally, many of us have had problems with the underwriters refusing insurance where the storage does not meet their specific criteria and have ended up moving storage sites to somewhere acceptable.
However, as David suggests, if it is an older van and you no longer tow, is it worth insuring it?
Thanks for the replies. My van is 15 years old so not worth much. I agree that there is hardly any point in insuring it. Which makes me wonder just what the insurance is for. But I’m a real insurance buyer. Soooo if anyone has any other companies … great. There must be thousands of us who store in France. Let’s keep searching just in case. Thanks
Just to add to my original post re insurance. It seems ( google!!) that caravan sites in france do not have to be insured. So i wonder if the sites have any liability at all. My investigation shows different requirements for UK sites. So…. If a tree branch falls on my van causing damage…. The site may not be liable.
I still must have insurance for my stored caravan in france if anyone has any ideas olease

How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
We insure ours with Eversure and had a European breakdown cover included too. Worth looking for. They don't advertise it online but if you call them I think they will arrange it with the breakdown cover too.

As I mentioned in a previous thread on this topic, the La Baudonniere campsite website has contact details for a France based insurance company where English is spoken, who they recommend for caravan insurance.
However, I have not looked into this myself as I am currently with Towergate.
Just out of interest, may I ask who you were insured with previously, as I was unaware anyone else was still insuring France based vans?
