Hi there, this is my first message to this site although I have been a regular vistor for a while. Reviews of the caravan sites I find are really accurate (well the ones we have visited anyway). Our problem is that we have two cocker spaniel dogs and one is travel sick. While we give her sealegs (travel sick tablets) for our main journey we like to find a site that has plenty of dog friendly walks without using the car. The sites that suit us currently are Teversal, Glenmore, Spiers House, Kippford and Stover. We would like to spread our wings a bit this year and we would appreciate your recommendations with our restrictions in mind.
Try Low Manesty CC site, Yellowcraig CC site, Clumber Park CC site, Park Coppice CC, Morvich CC site, Braemar CC, any one of which you can walk for miles and miles from direct from the site gates.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Thanks Bill, We have been on these sites apart from Low Manesty and Park Coppice. (I will certainly bear these in mind). We agree that Yellow Craig is great and we have walked most mountains in the Cairngorms and the walks including Ben Attah and the falls of Glomach from Morvich. Stuart and I always go north but last year the weather was so bad we decided to go south of Cheshire. We found the sites to be rather crowded and difficult with our current two dogs. Sites chosen were Stover and Kingsbridge (Start Bay). The later was a beautiful site but totally impracticle for our circumstances. We have Camped/Caravanned for 23yrs had two dogs for 30yrs. Scotland in general is very dog friendly and with vast amount of forests is well able to meet our requirements. However If we needed to go south again this year I am not sure we would be able to pick a site that would suit as when I trawl through the reviews not everyone mentions dogs. Thank you for your time and consideration.
I also have a dreadfully carsick dog, she gets so sick she gets on the point of collapse, all that works for her is A.C.P tablets from the vets and they work very well, also been looking on this US website and they have now designed a pill especially for very carsick dogs, I expect the vets here will have it soon
Hi Denise, you don't give your location or how far you want to travel, but Delamere Forest C & CC site is a great one for dogs - loads of lovely walks through the forest and you can pitch right next to it.

LOw manesty nestles at the bottom of derwentwater, and is THE most wonderful site for walking from. If you go out of the front gate you are on the path that climbs up Cat Bells, If you go out of the bottom gate you can walk all the way down Borrowdale, or across the boards to the Lodore Hotel and then around the footpaths up the lake side to Keswick, or up to Ashness Bridge and on to Watendlath. Going out the other back gate takes you into manesty woods, and from there onto the lakeside path that goes all the way up the back side of derwentwater. It is just about my favourite place.

Thanks for all of this, I will keep up to date with the new information on that website Papadore. My dog Kitty does well with the Sea Legs (we have tried most sick tablets) and it does not make her drowsy. Her sickness is definately motion sickness and not nerves/anxiety etc. We can travel for hours, distance not being a problem when she has had one of these tablets and has not been fed but we do not want to give them to her more often than twice possibly three times during a 2wk holiday. We used to tour Scotland before we got her and use the car whilst on site to get to walks, this is now not possible. We know the campsites suitable up north (Low Manesty escaped us, cheers Bill) but south of the border hardly any. We did camp at Blackmore which looked good but she could not make it to the Malvern Hills without a tablet and it was a short distance. Our location is Stockport Tigermouse and Delamere is not far away from us we used to take the dogs often for the day until we got Kitty and because of this we never thought about camping there.
Kind regards to you all for your input and consideration
Damage Barton in Woolacombe Devon, is fantastic for dogs, really nice walk, but lots of walks straight from the site, you need to be a member of the Caravan club or the Camping and Caravan club, though the Camping and Caravan site pitches are nearer to the sea views.
Sounds a bit mad, but, given your poor dog is prone to travel sickness & you don't want her drowsy, have you had a look at a herbal remedy. Have a look at the Dorwest Herbs website www.dorwest.com & if you can't see what you want, give them a call & they're really helpful. We've used their products for years now with a dog & 2 cats for various ailments, & the vet never said not to use them, because they're herbal, so won't harm & as long as you tell the vet what you've used in the event you need veterinary treatment, there's no problem - in fact, some vets prescribe their products.
Sounds like perhaps your dog needs something like valerian - I understand you don't want to sedate your dog, but sometimes it is the kindest thing as stress can manifest itself as vomiting, just like it can in humans.
Good luck
