Hi got a compass 430 3 years ago just decided to connect it to the mains.i have an orange cable with plugs on it but i can find where the inlet socket is sited is it somewhere under body. the van is about 1990
Thanks
Have a look inside the battery service door locker as it will most likely be in there next to where the leisure battery is located. If it's not then it will be under a flip up flap on the same side somewhere near to the battery locker.
Hi i did sent a reply maybe didn’t post it still learning how to find my way around this site
My 430 has a flap on the front with 2 locks inside is where battery is located along with gas bottles will I find plug in here
No, that's the front locker where the gas cylinders are stored and the battery needs to have it's own compartment by law for safety reasons merely because a spark could ignite the gas if ever there was a leak. You need to be looking for a drop down service door (with a single key lock at the top) that's a little longer than a battery which is usually located near the front on the offside of the caravan. The mains hook up socket should be inside that locker usually on the left of the battery.
There must be a location for a battery somewhere even if an external mains socket isn't installed unless the caravan is much older than 1990 in which case the battery terminal connections may be under the front right seat.
The mains inlet is usually near the battery and mains unit. Do you have a battery fitted? Have a look near the battery for a heavy mains cable that goes to the outside of the van.
Have you got a photo of the caravan you could put in your profile? Someone may recognise the model and know where the mains inlet is.
Strange place to install a mains socket as what protection is there to stop water and dirt getting on to the contacts? If you have found a mains socket then there must be an RCD mains trip switch somewhere in the caravan. Have you found that as you will need that switched on to receive power from the mains supply?
Sounds like the mains might be an aftermarket addition.
It was also common practice to put the 12v battery in the front locker in older vans. We had a Lunar Sunbeam (1986 model, purchased in 1987) which didn`t have mains as standard. I fitted a 240V system (and mounted the inlet under the van (as it was intended to be), near the door, fully waterproofed) and relocated the battery from the front locker to a vented secure location within the van. A standard fitment was a hatch on the front shelf to let you switch gas bottles without going outside, conveniently lit by a 12V light with it`s switch just inside the hatch.
Legislation and specification have changed, we can`t apply todays norm to yesterdays vans.
Have checked electrical switches inside van
RCD mains trip found lights working fridge working
for reference it’s a 1988 compass omega 430/5
Mains inlet plug has a cap on it dry as a bone
