Best is to use the caravan all year round then no problem.  Our blinds are pulled down at night and raised every morning 365 days a year and we still have to have them tensioned at every service.

I used to fit industrial roller shutters for a living & IF the rollers in our blinds ork on the same tension spring princple then I wouldn't leave them down for the same reason you were given. When the blinds are pulled down, the rolling action in the spring would put the required tension on it to lift the roller back up to open position & hold it there.

We remove everythn including all the seating from our van during the winter months anyway thereby leaving nothing but an empty box there to be taken.Saying that, it didn't stop them pinching it back in march but that's a whole different story.

I have cut some pieces of cardboard that i slot into the blind runners when in storage totally blanking out the light.Saves both the curtains from fading and the blind springs from stretching

I'm new to all this, but thought i would leave the blinds up, close the curtains and  simply turn the seat cushions right next to the windows over.(so that the underside is exposed to any remaining stray light etc)

The only other winter job i plan to do is a monthly exterior clean and wax every other. (weather permitting of course!)

(The van will already be on axle stands with the handbrake off)

Thanks to a member in another thread for reminding people to make sure the toilet(i wouldn't of even thought of the toilet!) and other water pipes are empty. (in case of hard frosts etc)

Most of our blinds (Swift Challenger) are pleated and pull up from the bottom to close. Any problem leaving these closed? To my knowledge they do not have the same tensioning spring as in the front roller style blinds.

We've always left ours closed whilst on the drive. Open whilst travelling.

We leave ours closed when the van is not in use to stop the covers fading, but I have heard that having them open shows potential thieves that there is nothing worth stealing (except the van?). We always have them open when travelling. We were puzzled when looking in a new van lately and thought it didn't have blinds, didn't realise that they came up from the bottom!
