These are the email replys I got from Bailey Caravans and ALKO when I first enquired about using a winch.
Dear Michael Thank you for your email regarding your Bailey Ranger 550/6.I can confirm that the only recommended point for any winch or pulley system is on the axle.Damage to the caravan can occur if any other point is used.I trust this is of assistance
Kind Regards

Dear Mr Cann,I must apologise for the delay in replying to your email request.
As per our information sheet No 6, the axle is the strongest part of the chassis that should be used when “winching” a caravan the only other possible location would be something attached to the ball coupling on the similar line of a “Power Wheel Mover”. We would not advise you to use the chassis members for attachment points by the straps.
Hi please help we have a steep drive 1 in 5 and can not reverse caravan up drive as we do not have the room. We bought a winch from ebay and was assured it would do the job required .. Our caravan weighs 984 kilogram but sadly the winch was not safe to use. ( not the required pulling weight) Please can you help and advise me what winch you use. Would be extremely grateful as I am very wary in buying another winch after buying this one which is of no use to me. Thank you Linda
This is the winch I have and pulls my Bailey Ranger 550/6 up the drive no problem. The company are also very good to deal with and quick delivery. They will answer any technical questions for you if you have all all the lengths and weights to give them.
If you can stretch the udget to a mover then that is the way to go. I managed to get a Powrtouch for £542 on a price match if it helps and they were very helpful and pleasant. It pays to telephone them though as the sales department tend not to reply to emails.
thinking about a mover as drive is on a slope and I dont want to stress the car's clutch by reversing but the cons are cost/weight added to van and for say 10 times in and out per year when I can annoy my very helpful neighbours for a bit of muscle. (cheers lads) same on sites there is always someone to lend a hand, throw them a tinny as thanks, I have to ask is it worth it
