Good for you, I've been towing since last summer, hubby works away so I have to, getting better every time. I must admit I do check out the journey first to make sure there are no narrow roads or sharpe bends. I've just been on a dummy run today to the New Forest, Roundhill were I am going this Fri so wanted to make sure I don't take a wrong turn and have to turn around.
Its such a great feeling to see the look of the faces of MEN when towing and you can just imagine what they are thinking and saying. I drive a big 4x4 and can park it anywhere and some of the faces I see - Oh I wish I had a camera with me sometimes.
I have been towing solo for 10 years now started off travelling from scotland to the north west now travelling from scotland to the west country when I started my kids where only young 2, 3 & 7 now I only take the 2 youngest my hubby comes down and meets us a couple of days after arrival once everything's set up and we all do it ourselves with no help as he works to the last minute possible[self employed has to] still can count on one hand how many woman i've seen towing vans its not that difficult
Well done, i tow the van i prefer motorways and dont like the narrower roads, hubby on my case do this!! do that!! watch this!!!etc.Definately dont like the road from j24 into burnham then to brean, bumpy and narrow, hubby does that bit.Best i just sit back and let him do it.
So i stick to the motorways,Best bit on the motorways, when you overtake the lorrys you get the the ''flashers '' to assist you when you need to pull in after overtaking the lorries!!, best bit i get double flashes, hubby gets one!!!! As he is a lorry driver as we!!!
Just bought a new van getting it mid june, it will be a twin axle and 3' longer than ours now, so will be a bit scared to start with.
One thing that will make you laugh years ago we had a coachman genuis and mondeo, hubby had just smashed his foot and couldnt drive, so i had to do it for the first time, had to go from plymouth to nottingham by night , i was so worried about meeting buses on the road from the lock up back to the main road, i phoned the bus company to find out what time the last bus at night went through so i could miss it, i did it no problem, had to stop in a service station, and parked so far away from main entrane so that i had a clear run out of the services.
Hubby woke up andwasn't happy he had a broken foot on crutches and miles to walk to the loo!!,i didnt want to reverse or anything like that. so he go in the drivers seat reversed back to a suitable place he wanted, watched by lots of lorry drivers, then parked up go out and hobbled away on crutches!!, but i am much better now still hat reversing etc but have a mover on the van so is easier on sites.

we got our twin axle in January, it's just short of 3' longer than our single axle and prior to picking it up I was really worried about the extra length but tbh the length of the van from the back wheel is the same as what our single axle was. I find it very easy to tow and don't worry about the lenth now. Hubby on the other hand panics whenever there is a tight entrance/exit. So try not to worry about it and just enjoy it
