Hi Westy I have same problem been told I am too young for knee replacement and I am also disabled through accident at work years ago on my back. Had to give up towing but now got van in storage and they also have a site so for £5 they tow the van to the pitch put legs down and then do the same when I leave back to the storage area. Why dont you try this?
We`ve thought about putting the van on a seasonal pitch,but looking at some of the cost`s involved ,we thought it would be more pratical to have a static and give us a bit more room.But I will go back to my doctor and be more persistent in an answer to a knee replacement,thats some real food for thought .
The problem with having knee replacements at an early age is that being a mechanical joint they will wear out. It might be 15 years, 10 years or even less. When the original replacement wears out the next stage is what is called a revision and it is a different operation altogether - much more serious.
I'm sorry to hear about your knee. My hubby has another slipped disc in his back (only had one removed March last year) and he is in a lot of pain with it so we I got a motor mover fitted and bought him a cordless drill to try and make things easier but we've now decided to go on a seasonal until things get sorted out. We weighed up the cost of seasonal against our storage costs, how often we would use it and found that it wouldn't be as expensive as we'd thought. It would be a lot less than having a static. Why don't you try the seasonal until you know for definite one way or another, that way you haven't lost the ability to still tow if you want to and the cost of seasonal must be cheaper than site fees for a static.

How can you be too young for a knee replacement - thats ridiculous. If you need a new knee you should be able to have it regardless of age, in fact a younger person maybe should have priority because they are potentially going to get more use out of it. Fight your case. Good Luck, I hope you get it sorted soon and then can get back to caravanning.

i have had 7 ops on my knee,last three done at national orthopedic hospital stanmore,i have like Brian been informed that it is not you cant have a replacement knee because your to young,its that they only last a certain amount of time,and to replace it for a newer one is very much more involved,so your doctors do try to get you to hold out for as long as possible.i was registered disabled and had not worked for 5 years,i thought my life had ended,but have been working full time for last ten years ,and now just got my first caravan(not towed yet)so get some advice,even if you have to pay privately for consultation, get down to stanmore hospital.

I have just turned 40 and need a new hip they dont want to give me it even though i am private. Its more to do with replaceing the replacement i think so they did an operation on my trocanter ( part of hip) last sept and will get another op next year to save them replacing my hip the doc told me although they are great it is always better to have your own in working order. i now dont have anywhere near as much pain but do struggle with certain things. Not a great swimmer so cant do that. UP until 2 years ago i was very fit and active playing squash at a high level and doing loads of running. But like others said dont give up fight it not for new knee then get it fixed. so stick in and dont be beat.
With hip replacements you might be able to get a resurfacing ( if there is not too much damage to the hip joint) so as to delay having a full hip replacement.

As has been explained above it is better to delay having it so as to delay the need for the more serious revision in the future. Below the normal knee replacement is on the left and the follow up revision is on the right. (not the same person)
