No issues with the cat at all. When I put the cat box in front of her on a Friday, she walks straight into it with no problem. Possibly because she think she is a dog as she comes most times when I call her. She does not wander far way from the caravan as she is now going on 14 years of age.
No problem with pets and holidays. we have several of pets of our own. But when a way dogs are kept permentally on leads as most site rule state they should be. So surely the same would have to go for cats. Must admit It would spoil our hols if I was having to constantly tell my terrier to be quiet just because he could see someone elses cat wondering around an he was wanting to go to it.
Re the budgie I would be concerned of accidental escapes or even said cats taking a keen interest in it.
We had a problem with two Lurches and the cat when the Lurches went for our other dogs. The cat stood between our dogs which are Yorkies and chased the Lurches away initially before they realised that they should be chasing the cat. All the cat did was go under the caravan and when the Lurches try to get her, she had a go at them as they could not fit uder the caravan. Unfortunately for the owner of the Lurches she had to take them to the vet as both dogs suffered severe scratching to their faces. Was also a lesson to her to keep her dogs on a lead.
As I said our cat wanders around our caravan and does not stray onto other pitches. As for the budgie that was a joke because I doubt if she could catch a bird and even if she did, she probably would not know what to do with it.
2 Things, My mum has a maine coon breed of cat, which behaves more like a dog and is about the size of one, these actually like being taken for a walk on a lead, so not sure if thats what kind of cat someone saw?.
And talking about birds, on our last trip to newquay we didnt have a long enough co-ax cable to reach to the bollard, a nice bloke came over to loan us a co-ax cable and when I looked up he had a parrot on his shoulder!!, when we dropped the cable off on our departure we noticed his parrot lived in a cage in his awning, so I guess birds can be taken away on hols.
Had a few experiences with pets on holiday.Back in the 70's went camping in a frame tent, remember them?, and girlfriend took her cat with us. The first morning we were woken very early by a pitter patter noise on the groundsheet in the living area, yes the cat had brought us a present, a mouse, of course I had to rescue it, and let it go. The cat got a b***ocking and order was restored, or so we thought. The following morning, "Oh what's this in my shoe?", oh it's only a dead mouse, eek!! Despite this early experience the cat went with us to Scotland and Wales as well as all over England.
We've seen rabbits, guinea pigs, hamsters. parrots, even, once, a ferret, which the owner walked on a lead. The best story though was when we inherited mums budgie after she passed away. Well Joey enjoyed the touring life and visited quite a lot of places with us, travelling in his cage on the back seat, until sadly he passed away one day whilst we were at a steam rally in Somerset. Well it's rather difficult to arrange a pet funeral at a steam rally and poor Joey ended up, in his cage, in a rubbish skip. I then was asked by my daughter aged five, where's Joey now? So I gently explained that he was flying free in a nice place with lots of other budgies." No he's not" said Ellie "he's in his cage over there in that skip".
Kids eh!!
Pete.

Nostalgia's not what it used to be.
I have 2 dogs a rabbit & a guinea pig but all of them stay at home with someone house sitting. I would never think about taking them away with me. I think cats should be kept on a lead just like dogs have too be on caravan sites. At the end of the day i have a 3 year old kid & don't want her running about a field that as cat dumps all over it as this can cause blindness & other diseases in kids.

Sorry I forgot to mention that unlike dogs our cat uses its dirt tray which is kept in the awning. Anyway as pets are part of the family why shouldn't people bring them along on holiday. If you object so much, there are plenty of animal free sites to choose from.
Well budgies were very happy at friend's house, and I think we relaxed more without them.
Both our dogs went with us and had a great time, though it was disconcerting on the first day to come across a couple walking their persian cat on the dog walk.
Luckily I hadn't let the dogs off (it was a field, not a fenced dog walk, and completely open) or I think it would have been a little strained. Is it really, really safe to walk a cat in a field where dogs run free? I have 2 cats and would never, ever risk it.
we have a budgie, hes 9 years old now, must be doing something right, and have never taken him away with us, we always leave plenty of seed and an extra dish in the cage just in case and fresh water. He is fine when we return, never left any longer than 3-4 days, any longer and we take him to parents or family member who are happy to look after him as not much hassle or mess.
When we do take him in the car in his cage to take him to above mentioned sitters he does ok, but does not appear to be a pleasant experience, he hanges on for dear life to the side of the cage!
My Dad and Mum always took their budgie away in the caravan, the budgie loved it, especially the car journey when he would sit on his top perch watching out the window. Anytime faither slowed down the bird used to start making a din until he picked up the pace again. Pretty much in the same way as our dog does!
In over 20 years of taking budgies with them they have never had one die, escape or take ill. Sadly we lost mum last year but dad is stilling doing the caravan holidays and the budgie is now great company for him. I am psositive that there would be no problem taking budgies with you as long as you practice the same level of diligence re open doors, windows etc that one does at home.
Mext time you see ErnieT and Budgie on site be sure to say hello.
Certainly caused a stir with all the kiddies in 2004 at Bruces Cave when they were there, a lot of the kids loved going into see the budgie and having a blether with it!
