Quality comes at a price. I've not had a quote less than
£ 450 for a brand new similar caravan to ashwellgirls. what is the norm for contents and awning? I've gone £3,000 contents and £1000 awning and its coming out more to insure the caravan than me car, even with the ATC, ALko Hitchlock and wheel lock.
I had my old caravan insured with CaravanGuard so phoned them and they have just updated it and it would be £348 for the year. Interesting that she told me not to go too high for contents cover as most stuff is already covered under the household insurance.

Do you need contents insurance? Often it is covered under your house contents policy.
We are insuring for £22500, van plus equipment, no contents, £347 with the Caravan Club.

Just check that you have the appropriate category on your household cover, ie away from home.
Yes i definetly do have cover away from home and the bikes are covered too :) Probably saved me a bit of money and we do have away from home cover on the house contents insurance.
But thanks for your concern because others may not and this is a reminder to them to check.
No point paying again for something that you have already paid for...
omg this is our van insurers as well.not bothered too much about the van tbh more our contents in the van when were away or at the storage yard.due to expire in 6 weeks anyway so no point in changing now

Remember your home contents cover does not cover your waste hog, water carriers and anything else caravan related including motor mover, hitchlok, wheelclamps etc which is why contents cover is a necessity! Your household covers clothes etc.
If with the CC, caravan stuff such as the Aquaroll, awning etc etc are termed "equipment" and covered along with the van, so you need to count up all your extras.
Contents are clothes, bedding, dishes, TV etc,in other words the stuff in the van, and may be covered under your house contents policy if you have the correct cover.
morning, we were with e & l but had'nt had to make a caim so we stuck with them for a year as we were new to tourers, we were paying £17.00 per luner month for a brand new van. after reading all the posts on here we deciced to switch and got loads of quotes and went with caravan guard, £320. 00 a year. we dont need a lot of cover for contents cause thats coverd on house policy but things like fridge etc are on as well as the awning but why do people cover things like pots n pans etc ? seems a waste of money to me , they're cheap enough to buy. atb Bill

All the bits and pieces add up to hundreds which is why we have contents insurance for pots, pans, china dinner sets, glass glasses, cultery, TVs, DigiBox, DVD,, etc as these will not be covered by household insurance. Household only covers clothese etc.
Our house contents insurance covers everything in our house, and the same items when temporarily removed from the house. Things such as the TV, laptop, tools, bedding, towels, any electrical stuff or dishes we don't normally keep in the van, even probably the tables, chairs and gas grill we take away as they are otherwise kept in the house, and of course clothes.
So there is no need to insure those items again.
Apart from the van itself, we have cover for "equipment", which would include the extras we added to the van(mover, air con, shocks, extra electrical fittings), and stuff such as the battery, gas bottles, awning, Aquaroll, Wastemaster, and a bit extra for the tables/chairs/gas grill just in case.
With the CC you don't have to take contents cover if you don't need it, and this gives a significant saving.
