10 years is a long time to recoup an investment. To be honest, if our van was pinched just before we were going on holiday, I would be gutted, but otherwise WOW! New caravan time! Remember, unlike cars, most caravan insurances pay new for old for up to 10 years. No worries, thats what I pay the insurance for.
Do you know Freeatlast... I had the exact same thoughts but even with those thoughts I still couldn't stop worrying. I do feel happier now but I guess our bank account is not quite so happy. I don't think there is a right answer cos whatever you do you could either have regrets or wow, didn't I do the right thing. Which insurance company will pay old for new up to 10 years? Sounds good.
Many do. Caravan Club do up to 3 (or is it 5) on their basic insurance, but then you can change to their super insurance cover (obviously dearer) which covers new for old up to 10 years. There is a slight catch, you have to have your van insured for the full replacement cost, not its current day value, but even so ours was £250 ish for £17K of cover with all the bits and bobs and extras. With the Euro exchange rate, our van replacement cost had gone up a considerable amount this year.
Never had any problems with CC and have made a claim with them about five years ago and they sorted everything out very quickly.... but it is a personal choice and one that needs consideration before jumping in.
