To compare them with the Matador of a few years ago is like comparing the new (VW) Skodas to a Skoda Estelle.

I take exception to that? that is to assume Skoda were the sole beneficiary of VW's expertise, while that to a degree may be true, the expertise was more than equally going the other way!

While more lately ham strung by communism and built damn good cars dispite this, remember, Skoda has a very long and illustrious history easily equal to the finest in the world, hardly words you would use to describe VW's short existence?!

Hi Jellybeans my bailey was fitted with the same size tyre In the end I fitted Avon supervan AV4 tyres 185/R/14 (185/80/14C) with the ok from Bailey These are an 8 ply commercial tyre with a load rating of 102 =axle load up to 1532Kg. I bought them from an Internet dealer & they were £56 each fitted & balanced,I have since done 3k miles round Europe with no problem My van has a MTPLM of 1360kg so I have a safety factor in excess of the  recommended 10%

this web site may be of some use http://www.tyresafe.org/data/files/caravan%2008.pdf

thanks for that info on tyre size,it confirms my doubts on fitting them as bailey approve, mine is 1272 MPTLM.so should be fine with a loading of 102.can i ask what tyre pressure you use on this size? yours are nearly £10 cheaper too.

Hi Micheal. On my van1360 the psi is 50. on yours at 1272Kg with the same tyre it would be aprox 46psi.

If you go to the tyresafe web site as above & scroll down to commercial tyres it gives the tyre sizes, axle loads & tyre pressures

Tony

Micheal, without labouring the point, I suggested ages ago you forget that Tyreline chart, it's confusing at best and down right dangerous if you don't know of the inaccuracies!
It gives overload weights or 'speed bonus' loads that are now frowned upon by the tyre manufactures, it's also a general chart more to do with builders trailers than caravans.

The only dedicated and accurate information about caravan tyres from the manufactures themselves is Tyresafe

You will see from the Tryesafe chart, the correct pressure for your tyres at a load of 1272kg is 48psi

Pleasure people!

Simon, I would though keep looking? annoyingly there are several popular 13" 6 and 8ply tyre sizes missing from Tyresafe's list, pressure charts for those would be most useful to all those with an older van.

155x6 and 8ply 165x6ply 175x6ply to name a few
