We have had field mice in our garager (not integral thank god, or I would have been doing my nut). They chewed through the roof of our porch awning - they have teeth like razor blades and can do a lot of damage. Put down poison and traps and got rid but we keep a careful check in there now and periodically lay down poison.
We then bought one of the battery operated sonic things off ebay for the van as it is stored on a farm and others there have had problems with mice. So far it's worked a treat, touch wood.
I once knew someone who had a static van that was totally trashed by mice during the course of the winter months. They made nests in the seats, chewed through pipes and electric cables and the place STANK, I mean really bad. Cost hundreds to put it right.
