the first thing we done when we bought our van was remove the gas bottles and give them away.we use our electric oven and hob when away as I do not like gas at all, dont have it in the house, wouldnt have it in the van and besides your electric is paid for anyway(opening another can of worms here with that statement).
however i do know that everything works ok as it was shown working to me when we bought it.plus we have no intention of selling her anytime soon anyway but when the time comes it will get a full gas and electric check anyway.
be wary about the damp(in fact best avoid IMO) but dont be put off any van just because people havent used the gas appliances
------------- Who needs travel agents,we have our static
We didnt buy the van ,had no intentions of after viewing it. sorry if I didnt make that clear in the beginning . the guy phoned us the following day offering to drop the price to 1000, which we declined . I know it was only a cheap van , but I still wouldnt pay that for something I couldnt see working order when he was claiming things did work .
The point I was trying to make was , he wanted 1300 for the van , but was not willing to supply gas (whats £20 for a refill against 1300 quid, he didnt have to leave the gas included if he wanted the bottle for his new van )or water to demonstrate that the appliances worked, even though it was sited on a permanent pitch when we viewed it,so there would have been a tap in easy reach . told us beforehand there was no damp ,which there obviously was , and did not have the awning there to view, because he had taken some of the poles out to use in his new awning .even though he had it on ebay and was expecting people to view it before ? If he had nothing to hide?
Anyway , after all that , someone bought it on ebay for the buy it now price of £1300 .
I tend to go with the old saying ' if in doubt dont'! Look at a van just like a car and if you think its goona give you heaps of worry and expense then walk away
We looked at lots of vans before buying the one we have now and like us as soon as you see ' the one' you'll know!

Dont touch it with a 10ft barge pole. Walls soft = DAMP
agree fully.caveat emptor/buyer beware.10 years ago when we viewed our first van, damp walls, old tyres,CRIS reg, nose weight,MTPLM,no smokers or pets, all these were part of a foreign language not learned as part of our caravan life.you do learn as you go along.it does not help when others are trying to sell you a damp van at the start of it all.
