The boot holds a three-way fridge (kept plugged in to ensure cold beer on arrival), awning and poles, 2x directors chairs, 2x folding chairs, 2x loungers, table and hitchlock. Everything else lives permanently in the van.

Youve all got me worried now! The only thing we have in the boot is food for the journey, wellies and walking boots and sometimes the portable barbeque, otherwise everything else is in the van. Folding table and chairs, aquaroll and wastemaster and porch awning. Food in the fridge and in a folding crate on the floor, clothes already put away. Are we doing it wrong?

It is reckoned to give a more stable tug to minimse the weight in the van versus what you can put in the car. Nose weight notwithstanding and the obvious issue about heaviest things that must be in the van to be low and near the axles.

nothing in the car, it's all in the caravan

Same here except the Lafuma chairs behind the front seats.

Gosh!! What a great forum - and great answers too!! Thank you SO much.  I think we'll be on the lookout for somethings like a Ford Mondeo estate or similar.

BTW Humans in the front seats, dogs in the back and luggage in the boot for us!

We'll look around for the right vehicle and probably look to buy car and van mid to late May hoping to have sold the campervan buy then and just before the summer hols.

Thank you all for your replies once again.

Liz

In the boot, coolbox, kojack and box with warning triangles etc. Rest in the van.

With just of us there is still lots of unused space in the van.

Its also well under the towing capacity of the Sorento.

Generally, everything is in the van.  If we take the porch awning or the 'caravan TV', then that goes in the car as it doesn't generally 'live' in the van.  Coats usually go in the car (and the odd thing which we may have forgotten)

In the car, permanently, I keep: a tool box and car spares; an umberella; the rechargeable electric drill with the bit to wind down the caravan legs; the brace to connect the caravan mover to the wheels (+ remote handset) and the cable to convert the new single caravan electrics to the old dual connectors on the car - these things stay in the car all the time.

Chairs (Lafluma type) and tables etc are kept in the van, but in addition, we also keep some fold up chairs (the sort that go into a long green bag) so that if we go out for a day, we have somewhere to sit.  I also leave some plastic picnic plates and some plastic knives and forks + kitchen roll etc.  (How many times have we gone out for the day and my wife decides to take food...... and how many times has she forgotten the plates, or the knife to spread the butter!!!)  These stay in the car all the year around too.

Everything is in the van, the only thing in the car is the TV & laptop as I dnt want to risk them getting damaged in the van when it moves whilst towing.

Occasionally we will put our TV underneath the quilt on the fixed bed.

Something else we always carry in the car: small step ladders to enable to reach those awkward awning bits.
