Manufacturers usually quote a gross train weight and possibly a towing weight within that. Gross train weight is the important thing. It doesn't matter if the weight is in the car or caravan, it's the total that counts.  The max tow weight is the weight at which the transmission etc will be damaged if you pull away on a steep hill of 1in8 or so.

Does yours have a gross train weight

It's easy to blame someone else you should have waited untill you were 100% sure instead of getting a van thinking it would be ok, now you feel a right d*ck because you basically c*cked up. get over it and sell the van or buy a bigger car job done.

3100 GTW minus 1505 KW leaves 1595 for car contents and towing.

MTPLM 1293 leaves 302kg for car contents. No problem.

I think vauxhall are being over cautious.

i thought that (checked the manafactures towing weight for my clio 1200kg and thats a 1.2 ? not that i would as the kerb weight is 1100 but just shows) but it is only a 1.6 and what i have read it will mess up my insurance i think, towed it back the other day but cant compare it as regards to pulling power the feel and what it should and shouldnt do as i have never towed a caravan before

Beware of Renault tow weights, we had a Scenic 1.9dci with a quoted tow weight of 1300kg, yet that was driver only, when the car was fully loaded, it could only legally tow 950kg!!!

Before our current car we had a 08 plate Zafira 150hp cdti & it towed 1480kg very well.
