Not all garages are Caravan friendly in terms of getting your van right next to the air pump to check your tyres. You may find one of these useful

Consider getting some sort of caravan rescue package too for if you breakdown or have an accident en route. We've got the CC/RAC one but there are others about too - you just have to make sure they'll recover the caravan not just your car.

If getting a nose weight gauge then it is worth getting Milenco one. We bought a cheaper one that was not accurate and the bathroom scales were not accurate either. Our van had a high nose weight and we wanted to make sure it fitting in with our tow bar. Being new to caravaning it felt good to get the nose weight right.

Milenco is, I believe, the only one certified to the relevant British Standard

Yes my Smax is fine to tow it - detachable towbar fitted in the morning.  I don't think theres much chance of us exceeding the MTPLM at the mo as we aren't fully equipped.  OH is going to weigh everthing as it goes in to get us a rough idea where we come in at.

Had a lovely afternoon in Discovery buying a few bits and pieces - what nice fellows caravanners are, I had several nice chats with other caravanners in the store who spotted that I was a newbie & gave me lots of good advice.  

Aw thank you Margaret - a couple I got talking to in Discover yesterday highly recommended the Chertsey site so Im really excited - as are the children as we will be taking them to Legoland one day.

We are all ready for Saturday - CRIS check clear, towbar fitted, loads of stuff in my dining room mirrors, aquaroll, wastemaster, hitchlock, noseweight gauge, number plate all ready.  Engineer booked to meet us to give it a good once or twice over for the pre purchase inspection.  Seller seems really nice, helpful & genuine so all systems go.  As soon as its on my drive I will show you all what I've got!!! (if I can manage to get a pic on here!)

Just remember when you drive along that you are the most important person on the road and don't let anyone try to move you along too fast thinking that they are.
