Go on have a go yourself I did and I'm a feller and I was very pleased with the result. Not bad on a cheap second hand old fashioned sewing machine.
Hi robin52, Used to work in sewing factory as storeman when l was a lad, and watched how all the woman sewed and put together the garment, and watched the guys in cutting room setting out the patterns, which allowed for the seams, and cut material to reduce any wastage.Surprised what has come to mind from all those years ago, Will be practicing on old bit of cloth, so can make a half descent straight line, But most importantly How to keep fingers out of the way of needle, as had little accident 2 month ago, with a drill bit that broke and drilled my finger right through, still numb but healing.

I made a full set of curtains and covers for my van recently. I was surprised at how long they actually do take to make and how much labour was actually involved. Took me best part of 2 weeks, with linings and poppers.
Hi All, Well I've took the first step, bought ready made curtains 90X90, at that size Imake mistake, will still have enough material,if cant rectify it, bought a box of 5 needles, sizes 9,11,14,16, 16 for Denim, leather, plastics(for popons) £1.25,and thread 68p a real, srrprized me price so low after the shock of price of material. Cut curtain a little over sized to allow for heams,Will need to take out sewing machine out and dust it down,do a few test runs,to try and get straight line, and learn where to keep fingers out of way, dont want to sew fingers into curtains.
