We use our awning to sit in when the weather is warm enough could not justify putting a heater on in there when you have a nice comfy caravan to sit in where the heat is not wasted. The time will come when all sites will have meters due to over use of the EHU like abroad in Europe.
we try not to use a heater, but on occasion do, we have 3 kids, all under 6, and if they go to bed, then we sit in the awning for a bit, if we went into the "cozy caravan" we'd wake the kids up!
I think any attempt to heat a caravan awning is a monumental waste of energy and not what we should be doing in these enlightened times. Also unless you are on metered electric the cost is averaged over all consumption so it is ultimately pushing up the cost of everyone's ehu.

Get the fan heater on you still won't use all the electricity that you pay 2to3 quid a day for
I disagree with the above as we were on metered EHU and you will easily knock up at least £3 at £0.14p per unit with a fan heater in a 24 hour period.
Remember that you probably have the heater in the caravan on plus the water heater. Also lights, TV and any other electric appliance like kettle, fridge or similar will all added up together probably use up more than £3 of a electric in 24 hours quite easily.

Lights and TV etc will use a tiny amount of electricity - it's the things that generate heat that really use it up.
I would be surprised if sites haven't worked it out carefully, allowed for people using fan heaters etc and still made sure that the cost for EHU covers everything and a little extra to make some profit out of it.

Quick bit of mental arithmetic - £3.50 a night for electricity is approximately equal to 25 kWh at £0.14 per unit and does not take into account the cost of maintenance and site posts etc.
In the winter month I reckon that I can easily exceed that amount just with caravan consumption without heating the awning as well. A few months back there was a couple on a site I was staying on that had a 2kW halogen heater on in their awning for most of the day so they probably used about 25kW on only the halogen heater.
In the summer months I probably use a couple of kW per day at most so yes the site operators do probably balance out the high use and low use periods and users but I would still prefer to pay for what I use and not pay for others extravagances
