We also used a bed guard with no problems. Another tip we discovered was to use a builders trug as a bath. They are great as they are soft and flexible and the child sits upright and you can flex them under a campsite sink to fill them up. You can also use them as a bucket to wash the caravan or to load groceries etc.

You can get different sizes depending on the age of the child. Our daughter still loves hers at the age of 3.

we bought a nscessity pop up travel cot/uv tent. yes ok it costs a little more than other pop up cots, but our daughter has been in it since she was three months old sleeping next to us on a large double front bed. in the day time (with some swift packing away) you can take it to the beach as sun shade for little one, also afternoon naps or just throw in awning for much of the same. safe in the knowledge it 50+ SPF. she's 15 months now and still sleeps in it.(plenty of room)

When our son was a tot we only had a 2 berth and he slept in the double bed with us with his bed guard between him and me. the bottom bunk with a bed guard would be ok as you will hear your 11 month old start tow riggle about so should be ok. Good luck!!
