Ooh thanks lots to think about - we have two calor lite bottles so thats not a problem - we'd probably need a spare battery in case we need to use mover. Solar panel probably something to think about next spring.

We are members of both clubs and we must have been automatically made members of the cheshire group as I have just found a letter and booklet of 2011 rallies.

I would say just go for it some people think that going without an ehu for a night is a major hardship its's not.

You will use a lot of gas I would expect 6kg of gas to last 4-6 nights at £20+ per bottle its not supprising most use a larger bottle size.

In the CC you have to opt to join a centre about 90% of membership don't!  So if you have a CC rally handbook you must have done it either by filling out the form that comes with your membership or online.

A PS regarding payment As an occassional rally organiser turnung up and paying would be a nightmare if you are organising anything eg we have some rallys where we hire a hall or put on food how do we budget for that if people are decide at the last minute.  Equally what happens if you have a venue that can accomodate 30 vans and you are the 31st van?

when it comes to the subject of ralleying, our house is divided, we've only been 'vanning for just over a year & are members of both clubs, I want to try a ralley or 2 just for the experience ( i'd probably enjoy it ) but cannot for the life of me, convince SHMBO to give it a go.

she has some sort of pre-concieved ,mis-conceptions about beer tickers and morris men, nor do'es she like the idea of non-electric sites with basic or even no 'ammenitie's', where do i begin to convince her otherwise ?

Tell her you will empty the toilet

You have everything you need in the caravan,  plus you will have belting locations, nice neighbours and low out goings.  What more could you want.

Actually the vast majority of rallies I have been on we have paid on arrival. It's usually pretty straightforward to predict how many will fail to show. If rain is forcast, up to 10 per cent in my experience will not show. If you are going to feed people then we normally buy the food locally once everyone has arrived. Some rallies are limited by numbers, and officially should be paid up front, but this is often neglected. The only time this is policy is enforced is when a rally is taking place on a commercial site and the site want paying up front. We certainly wouldn't want to be paying for 30 pitches only to have 28 caravans arrive.

You really should book onto a caravan club rally, even if you just give the rally marshal a ring and let them know. As someone who has run several rallies, it is good to know in advance the age groups you have attending so that you can cater accordingly.

Fioana, We have a mover, but on rallies i dont ever think we have used it. Pull up to the pitch and unhook, very little positioning needed, hook up and drive straight off

You are correct what I meant to say was in the winter a bottle will last 4-6 days but if I need the gas fire I switch it on.

Actually the vast majority of rallies I have been on we have paid on arrival. It's usually pretty straightforward to predict how many will fail to show. If rain is forcast, up to 10 per cent in my experience will not show.

It's a lot less than 10% if they have paid up front! A bit like the Caravan club sites and the arguments for paying deposits.  If I'm honest there have been times when we wouldn't have turned up if we hadn't already paid.  That said most rally organisers I know will try to give a refund if they can.  I think you also would be amazed at how many times the organisors put there hands in their own pockets.  In our centre at least the price you see in the book is the price everyone including the organisers pay.

I was on a rally at the weekend where the field wouldn't physically take more than 18 vans.  If that was turn up and pay it would have been chaos because a lot more than 18 would have wanted to get on. So I was looking at from the point of veiw of over attendance not no shows.

All that said if you see something you want to go on it is always worth giving the rally organisers a call just to before the rally to see if they have any space they may have late cancellations that they are happy to fill and would welcome you paying on the gate I know I would.

Sorry If above is the sort of stuff that gives Rallys a bad name.

THEY ARE ACTUALLY AND ARE SUPPOSED TO BE FUN EnJOY
