The caravan was sold with major service and 12 months warranty. They're put new water heater in and changed some gas pipes which had a leak so didn't cut corners.
Have spent all morning on the phone to them and they are trying to sort it out.
Caravan club insurance have said I must have a independent check done on the van and valuation (with cat c) on. Dealer is arranging all this and we are hoping that if all comes back ok we can insure the van and have have refund of the valuation if lower than what we paid.
Just big nightmare, but we love the van and can't see anything wrong with it.
Really didn't need this but least they are trying to help!
Maybe there isn't much wrong, and I hope for your sake there isn't, but the van should still have been sold with the description including the fact that it was an insurance write-off, and the price adjusted accordingly. The fact that they didn't carry out a check is no excuse. They have a legal duty to only sell vans that are "fit for purpose". The old chestnut "sold as seen" only really applies to private sales. A dealer could possibly use it if they had made perfectly clear that it was "sold as spares only", and a full description given in writing of all faults. It cannot be used to get out of their legal obligations, such as the sale of goods act.
I hope you do get it all sorted to your satisfaction, but be firm with them and don't accept any excuses. They have clearly sold an improperly described caravan, knowingly or not, and they have a duty to put things right to your complete satisfaction.
If they do, I hope you enjoy your new purchase and have many great holidays with it.
Sounds like the dealer is being fair. Anyway don't let it ruin your holiday. Personally I'd put the insurance money in the holiday fund and go have some good times instead.
