I had a tyre blow out last year, on my twin axle, did'nt notice a thing untill the rim now minus the tyre touched the tarmac when we went over a bump in the road.
remaining tyre looked about half flat as it was taking the load of two, but allowed me to safely bring the outfit to a controlled stop, friends travelling behind were trying to phone us to stop as i'd travelled about 200mtrs before I knew.
It caused some damage to the wheelbox, and the alloy wheel needed replacing (e-bay) but apart from that I was very lucky. I was travelling at about 55mph when it happened, it could of been much worse. All four tyres were less than 8 weeks old and the pressure checked before leaving the campsite 30 minutes before.
So personally it's a twin axle for me everytime.
