At 3000rpm on my Mondeo, I get around 39mpg. At 2000rpm, that's nearer 60.

Thanks for all the helpful answers. I've been towing in 4th at 3000 revs, so I guess I need to notch it up into 5th gear and maybe get more fuel efficiency as well.

Ah but are you really doing 60? The speedo might be overreading, and your'e actually doing 56mph. A Satnav will tell you your real speed.
I cruise at 60 according to Satnav (it shows on my speedo as 64mph), and means I can comfortably use 6th gear.

In my Mondeo 5th gear. I find the turbo seems to kick in around 1700 and it has plenty of pull in 5th and rarely have to change down.------------- Matt

I tow a Pegasus 546 with our 2008 Honda crv diesel. Most motorway journeys are at 55-60mph in 6th gear with no problems. Changing down is never a problem and reasonable mpg returned.

Cheers ian. Should save me a few pounds in fuel. Was only getting 22 mpg.
