we have decided to go the other way round, we are pretty much top end of our towing capacity and don't won't to blow up the engine, although we have basically google 'walked' that run and the Yorkshire moors run and there is really not much init, other than the Y moors has a hairpin bend half way up and we managed that in 1st!
but as we took the moors route by accident, i'm not sure i'm willing to risk our car with known facts!!
I towed to Fairbourne 7th - 10th August and there were no road works on the bit of A5 I travelled on - that was from just above Wrexham to where you exit for Llangollen. The A5 route through Llangollen and onwards to Bala is much easier - it might be a bit longer, but it's loads faster.
Being in South cheshire, we have spent most of our lives going to Barmouth, first as kids with Dad towing, and now we have our own units. Always did the other way as that was the way Dad did it! However, once I found the A5 route, how easy was it? All those years going up that hill when we could have gone round it!
Wouldn't it be great if they could extend the A55 all the way to Cardiff? There would be no problem getting to any part of the welsh coast then!
well, just got back from our wonderful trip to barmouth and what a trip it was, we loved every minute!
While en-route we decided to go over the mountain and after feeling sick for the 10 miles before it, when it came we did really well, in fact we got up it better than our friends, who both burnt clutch, we all whooped as we realised we had done it, at a respectful pace.
it has given me alot of confidence in my towing of the 'van and in the car pulling it too. (the hubby was very proud)
thanks for all the advice

So you eventually took the challenge then? I had no doubt in my mind that you would do it but now you have done it it makes towing that much more confident. Well done and glad you had a good holiday. Did you come back the same way?
I still remember going to Barmouth on a school camp, I was part of the advance party and we and all the kit went on an old then Bedford bus.
The hill your talking about is probably the one we had to all get and push!!
I also remember a right scrap we had with local lads in a cafe! that was after a couple of our lot pulled a couple of local girls...but that's another story and was 1967! happy days...lol

Well done. But I wouldn't risk a burned out clutch for the sake of a few extra miles. JMHO.
