Its worse when a lorry driver does not wait until he is past you before pulling in believe me this happened to me in France. I was going up a long hill in France with the cruise control on doing 90 kmh when a lorry came up level just got half the vehicle length past me and then ran out of steam as the hill steepened he then just pulled over I had to brake hard and pull hard over to the right onto the hard shoulder otherwise he would have wiped the side of the car out.

If only the overtaken vehicle would flash it lights to say you were clear to pull back in, but in my (short) experience many do not bother.

I always flash my lights when a lorry overtakes us, but I find it doesn't always happen the other way around.

I wonder if some lorry drivers just don't like caravans !
I have been told by a heavy goods driver that he and many other "knights of the road" find it highly amusing to overtake us "wobble box" towers and pass as close as poss just to see us panic and wobble! I have better ways to amuse myself, and always flash wagons in and find that on the rare occasion I venture into the middle lane most lorry drivers flash me in.

Any foreign lorry driver will come in on you if you present him with this situation, next time drop back & drive to survive. Sleeping out in a truck for weeks on end turns anybody into an animal...I know, I was that animal once.

I use the M54 daily for travel to work. As a route to Wales, it is popular with caravannners, I am surprised at thge number you see without towing mirrors.

Yes some have big MPVs or 4x4s but it is still a legal requirement I believe?

We have a big Sorento, which has nice big mirrors, but we always use towing mirrors because you can see better behind!

The legal requirement is that you must be able to see a 4mtre width from edges of caravan 20metres behind you & if the caravan is wider than body of tow vehicle you are unlikely to achieve that without towing mirrors.
