I have an avtex aerial, not sure if it's the same one... but I usually get a signal with it just on top of the wardrobe! What a lot of people don't realise is that you need to switch on the tv aerial booster in the tv settings on the tv. I also have a separate 12v tv booster that came with mine, which plugs into a 12v socket twixt aerial and tv for if you don't have a setting on your tv.
An amplifier is NO substitute for a good aerial. An amplifer will amplify the signal, but also amplify any "noise" or spurious signals.
Why do people fit a multi element yagi or log periodic to their house, yet expect a bit of bent wire or a flying saucer to work on their caravan.
Just been on site for a few days spoke too 2 owners of new Elddis caravans and they say they havent had any more problems than they had with Status directional
I had my first weekend in my new Elddis Crusader Supercyclone and must also admit the failings of the tv reception.
Managed to tune into BBC1 and BBC2 and a few other remote channels but the picture kept pixelating so turned it off in disgust.
All my previous vans have been of Swift group with directional arials and although the reception on my seasonal pitch is not great, the directional arials were great.
If I put a pole up with a standard tv arial, where can I plug in the signal feed coax plug to relay good signals inside the van - or do I need to feed the coax through a window and connect direct ?
It is really disappointing that so many caravanners will be put off buying Elddis and Coachman just because of the ****** tv arial. Had I been aware of these issues I would have bought Swift again.
I purchase the van brand new from Newport Caravans just before Christmas - Do you think they will try to help me or not.
They are already arranging to replace the shower because the shower tray has a long crack in it. And this was supplied direct from Elddis.
NOT GOOD QUALITY CONTROL!!!!
We are now starting in our 3rd season with our Elddis and tbh, the tv is now working ok on most sites we visit via the caravans ariel. We have just returned from Snowdonia, which is notoriously bad for tv reception, but we still managed to pick up 4 channels via the Autotune feature. The CL we regularly visit in Yorkshire tunes us into most of the freeview channels the same as we get at home, as does Lakeside in Lincolnshire.
We did complain to our dealer about the poor tv reception a few weeks after we had the caravan, and we also go him to install an ordinary co-ax connection into the battery box for when we need to use the tv hook up on commercial sites, and he set the tv up in the dealership's yard and showed us that it was working ok, so full marks to Raymond James Caravans of Atherstone for sorting this for us.

They are a piece of junk. I'm on my third aerial now, have changed all internal cabling, sockets and connections and still a pile of junk. Mind you so is the van a 2013 Elddis Avante 540. Pikey Bob,they don't have quality control at Elddis. They build them fast and throw them out and let the dealer be ther quality control. If someone could explain how you add pictures to a post I will show you what there quality control is like.
We must have been fairly lucky then, ours has been ok so far, we have got the Avante 462, we bought it in July 2013, and have used it for 14 weeks away upto now. Ours was a demonstration stock van, so maybe they tweeked and got everything right when they used it for their demonstrations, the only thing that l would change if l could would be the Whale water system to the shower, its just so easy to nudge the leaver and change the water tempreture accidentally resulting in a drenching of either ice cold water, or even worse, very hot water which would be dangerous if a child was using it, and certainly hot enough to cause reddening to the skin.

We bought our Avante 515 last may after many happy years with our avante 636. On our first outing the fridge broke(and during a rare heatwave!). The bathroom handle fell off and had to tape up the wiring under the cooker to allow me to use the cupboard under the cooker. The build quality is nowhere near as good as our 2005 636. everything feels flimsy. All that said, the real bug bear was the Avtex ariel. We were away for 3wks in the summer at different sites most of which we have visited before and always had a perfect picture with our status directional ariel.we also went away most bank and school holidays. It's maddening when you are the only ones on site not getting a picture. In all that time( nearly a 1yr) we have only once got a signal and that was with not plugging in the tv to the ariel socket at all!. I have replaced the ariel wiring, added boosters. atenutors and there is nothing wrong with the tv. Avtex were helpful when I wrote to them and have asked the dealer to contact them. It is going in for a service at the end of the month and I have asked the dealer to strip back and contact the Avtex engineer who offered to help. I have no doubt that the problem will lie with Elddis but will keep you posted on the outcome.
Manufacturers will set a specification for parts suppliers then choose who gives them the best price.
Im sure the Ariel will work well if it meets the spec that elddis has set for it
On the whole caravan aerials are expensive crap.
OK, if you are in a strong signal area you may get a picture, but you are just as likely to get the same with a length of damp string. As I have said before, an amplifier or booster is not a substitute for a good aerial. As the signal being received by the aerial gets weaker, the closer the signal level gets to the level of the background "noise". The amplifier will amplify this "noise" along with the signal resulting in snow and ghosting on analogue tv or pixelation and drop put on digital tv.
Buy a cheap house aerial and an aluminium pole and fix it to the jockey wheel, pass a coax cable through one of the vents then look at any nearby houses and point the aerial the same way
Last year we swapped our Swift (2013 model) because we didn't like the layout. --- I know - expensive mistake. But the directional aerial worked a treat. No problems at any site we went to.
We swapped it for an Elddis Supreme - 2014 model - Love the caravan but the aerial will only work when there is a good signal.
No-one can tell me the aerial in just as good because it is NOT.
We have the a 2014 Elddis Supreme and so far (touch wood) the aerial seems to be working OK. However we have only been to reasonably local sites so far.
