I'm surprised that manufacturers haven't changed the water heaters to some kind of 'timed' version.

A bit like our hot water (and heating) system at home, only on at peak(ish) times / when needed.

If we're on a 16 amp site it stays on 24/7. If we're on a 10 amp site I switch it off if we use the microwave. (sometimes I even remember to switch it back on again afterwards!)

We heat ours when we need it but,when we go out i always switch off the pump after reading some one was flooded out.

yes we always turn off the pump when going out.
