Also the weather has a profound effect on satellite signals be it from the download to your receiver or upload to the satellite. Digital signals as far as I know are virtually free from interferrence (except for the roll out of 4g internet signals but you can buy filters to address that) at home we have the aerial in the loft so the signals can go through roof materials etc.
Just for anyone who is following this thread and comes on holiday to the south coast next summer, be aware that the weather conditions do affect Freeview as well. When there is high pressure especially in the evenings as the sun is setting the Freeview signal can break up altogether on most channels due to poor signal quality. This apparently is due to French digital transmissions from transmitters directly in line with (in our case) the Rowridge transmitter on the Isle of Wight interferring with our signal. This is nothing to do with 4G (we haven't got 4G, haven't even got gas!). Just thought I'd mention it in case it ever happens to you when you're on holiday.
