The usual way to get around insurance for caravan & car when fulltiming is to have an address of friend/relative where you 'live' when you are not(permanently)on holiday.
Sue, just an idea but how about renting a smallish caravan on a site for a weekend/week next summer in the warmest months to see for yourself how doggins will get on? In Northern Ireland there is a company who will rent you a tourer, put it on site etc. The only thing is it's quite expensive and their T&C's state that pretty much anything that could happen the caravan is your fault but it would be worth it just to find out if the dog will be ok.

Probably more of an eye opener if done in the winter as summer will be a breeze!
Thanks again for all your replies. They have given me a lot to think about - full time van insurance, doggy day care ( I would be able to afford it once I give up paying bills!!!)etc etc.
I don't think I need to go to the expense of renting a tourer for a couple of weeks Campernic, I know the hound will settle - he settles anywhere once he is familiar with his surroundings which I would get him use to by taking my leave when I pick up the van, it is the potential heat, I don't really want him cooked although it would provide a cheap meal for a day or two!! For myself I am happy that I will be ok living in a small environment having previously lived in a shared static for a couple of years when I worked with horses and have lived on a 35 ft boat for a couple of years but that was in the Caribbean so no comparison really! If it was to get really uncomfortable in the winter, I am lucky living in Cornwall, there are plenty of winter lets I could use but then that would defeat the object, but at least I have the option there.
I like the idea of doggie day care - he would have fun and I would not have to exercise him so much before and after work!! I will be checking out places down here.
Off to more research - I love the world wide web!!

When you stay on a site you get to know others like you. Our neighbours used to unlock our caravan to let the dogs out on hot days so no issue there. The cat was no problem and she could go in and out as she pleased.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
