Tbf there's not that many younger folk who can afford to go caravanning. Which will be why most caravanners are older. I certainly could not have afforded it in my 20s or 30s.

See I'm not too sure about that, you can very easily get a relatively cheap caravan these days. It may not be in the best of shapes compared to more modern vans, but as long as there are no water ingress problems then all you are loosing are the luxuries like the large front sloping sunroofs, microwave, vented heating etc.

Its really interesting seeing everyone's thoughts on this! I managed to pick up a very unusual and rare Kip caravan which had been imported from the Netherlands. One elderly couple owned it from new and always kept undercover. Better than any UK example I could find. My only fear now is something somebody mentioned to me about pitching a continental caravan as the door is on the wrong side. Any experience with this, or this may be a separate post!

I understand about the cost, but as somebody mentioned you can pick up a decent van and if its lightweight most cars tow them these days. Well worth a go I say.

I was about 30 when I got my first caravan for £250 although I had been camping all my life wife and kids didn't like camping so got the caravan to be close to the freedom of camping

I think the only problems you will have will be on club site pitches where they stipulate you have to pitch a certain way, other than that you should be fine as other sites don't really care how you pitch up (at least thats my experience)

I've got a hobby with the door on the right, never had a problem,I go front first on both club sites and other sites sometimes,I've never heard anyone with a uk van say there's a problem when they go to France, as for passing the driving test after 97 there are plenty of outfits under 3500kg, most I see on the road are under
