The lightweight 6kg calor gas bottle certainly do have a rubber washer. It is cone shaped and attached to the gas pipe connection. If you lose this there is no seal and gas will escape.I know because it happened to me
I use the standard red propane bottles and they don't have a washer, I did not realise that other red bottles do have them. It is good to learn.
The bottles don't have the washer, its the pipe (pigtail) from the bulkhead regulator that has a washer.
Some propane POL fittings are just brass but some have a rubber insert in the sort of 'nose cone' fitting that goes into the bottle, I had one like that on my old pigtail but the bubber split on it so when I replaced it I reverted back to solid brass. I fitted a stainless steel pigtail this time as there was signs of that oily residue from the plasticiser in the rubber pipe as that is said to damages regulators.
