I have always avoided hard standing (and never really examined one) and had assumed it is impossible to peg into them. Practically every message in this thread is negative about them.

Seriously, can someone tell me what is supposed to be the point of hard standings? Are they supposed to be an advantage for the user or for the site owner?

I think since the invention of ehu and caravanning becoming a year round past time hardstanding has become necessary, it's no fun slogging around a muddy pitch in the depths of winter and towing a caravan off a muddy pitch can be a nightmare.

I always choose a grass pitch where/when possible. However, the site I'm talking about in this post only offers hardstanding

Although I usually avoid them when I can I can see the point in hardstanding in bad weather or out of season.

We don't usually use our caravan much between October and April, so we hopefully never need hardstanding, but for those that venture out all year round it must make a difference when the grass pitches are waterlogged.
