The amp is normally a small cream coloured box with oax cables connected to it.one to aerial others to wall connectors in the van.
The power switch is on the top on ours a blue LED comes on.

We have never had much joy with the flying saucer type aerial. We have one of these which we attach to the jockey wheel and use a signal finder. Rarely have issues.

With digital TV there should be no issue whether it is the flying saucer type or not.

Sorry for the delay in coming back to you. I think I’ve cracked it as long as I get a decent enough 3G signal. I’ve bought a to link mobile WiFi device and the cheapest sim I could find - as I’m lucky enough to have unlimited data on my mobile phone plan I can ‘gift’ it to the mobile WiFi for no charge. I can now run sky go via my sons redundant Xbox - happy days!
If there’s not a decent 3G or 4g signal I’ll have to try freeview through the aerial ... we’ll see
