The bare bones of something like this is going to cost you towards 10K. The caravan - for anything remotely worth having will be 2-3k; remember, you are spending a fair bit of time in it, so it wants to be half-decent. A car to pull it - same price. And a seasonal pitch; easily 3k. Have you got this sort of money in your back pocket?

But, on the other hand; you've said the noise has only been going on a day or so. It may settle right down. Is it a big flat? Is there a chance of doing one of these 'swaps' that seem to be a thing nowadays?

There is absolutely no way the noise is settling down. They are even noisier and there is a constant banging of doors. There isn't any point talking to them about it. It's really difficult having to listen to these people when you don't want to have to listen to them. I thought about some type of a white noise machine. However, I think it would have to be quite effective though. It would be nice to have one room to be able to escape all the noise and door banging. There are very loud small children there as well.

We've got a car as long as my partner would let me use it. It sounds quite a lot of money but it's possible that my partner would be willing to help with buying a caravan. If only these flats were soundproofed, I don't understand how they expect people to live in these situations.

Some council owned sites do 12 months, some 11 etc, the latter require you to move off the site for a while.
There are also some private site which do 12 months, its a case of asking in your local area facebook pages or doing a paper search, putting the area you're interested in on here would have been beneficial to you.

Do people actually stay in their caravans around this time of year or do they leave it until when it's warmer? I'll have to do some research on the sites. I think it's easier for people with children to live in these properties.

In the warmer weather we have a 15" fan going all night. Its amazing what it blots out. We - naturally - always have a window open, which is right behind our heads. There are barking dogs, people walking past talking, and car engines. But it deadens the lot. And we are between the fan and the window, so its not like its a 'barrier' as such. But, this time of year, a fan is the wrong thing to use. As you dont want to be 'colder' at night.

If you have a partner ( they dont live with you??), hopefully they can pull the caravan (car/van size being compatible), and help with the costs.

Few older places are soundproofed anywhere near whats required, you are just unlucky to have inherited some anti-social neighbours. But, are they particularly noisy, or is it that you are by nature, a quiet person. Hence hear every movement/voice?

My partner doesn't really appear to be as keen to have a caravan. I'm not getting much response from him but he has got a car with the ability to tow it. The neighbours who are attached to us by a wall are noisy. However, it doesn't affect me as much as the noise travelling from the downstairs flat. I don't like not being able to control the noise, which is why I'm also thinking about purchasing a white noise machine. It would be nice to get away from here though so that's why I'm looking at caravans and things like that.

you either use the ehu or gas, depending on the site, our gas goes o on arrival as that is the quickest way to get lots of heat to warm things up, and then it gets changed over to the electric side of the heating, esp over night. seeing as you will already be paying to use the ehu, then you might aswell get the most out of it and use it!

If we need heating in our caravan we use an electric convector heater. It is fitted with a gas heater, but why use gas when you are paying way over the odds for un-metered electricity?

What time of the year would you suggest I look into getting a caravan? There seems to be a lot of things to do for someone who has no experience of caravans or staying at campsites and that type of thing.

If you are looking to buy a second-hand caravan, right now is a good time. People are all looking at Christmas plans at the moment so caravan prices will be at their lowest. The worst possible time to look for a caravan is spring time. Spring is the best time to sell a caravan as prices are through the roof.

If you have never had a caravan before and you are thinking of buying second hand then please don’t buy anything without getting it checked out by someone with experience first. A caravan’s biggest killer is damp and often, when this starts, it is cosmetically invisible so you won’t know it is there. Many people have joined this site very distressed as they have paid a lot of money for what looks like a pristine second hand caravan, only to find it is riddled with damp and will cost a small fortune to repair.

There are some genuinely good caravans out there but unfortunately a lot of unscrupulous people, including dealers, will be trying to palm off their dodgy caravans on unsuspecting newbies.

At the very least, take a damp meter with you when you go to look at a caravan and check absolutely everywhere. If you buy from a decent dealer, they will often give you a short warranty in case anything unexpected shows up immediately after you buy it but if you buy from the likes of eBay etc then you have very little comeback.

Good advice above. Damp,is the biggest enemy. The seller should have the service history, worth asking. If not recently serviced it makes sense to have it done as it includes gas and electric safety checks and brake check and adjustment.
If the tyres are more than 5 years old they would probably need replacing even if not worn. Look for cracking in the sidewalls and in the gaps in the tread.

As the neighbours are new, shouldn’t you complain to the Council as they will be unaware - or might have moved the neighbours before, on condition there are no more complaints. Environmental Health can also monitor noise - but that will be how loud it is (eg band practice, tv on full), not unexpected slamming doors or a short scream from a child.
I have noise cancelling head phones that I use on long haul flights, I have to turn them off to hear the cabin steward. They are expensive new but OH got them cheap from what a cash-for-goods (aka pawn) shop.
White noise can itself get irritating, having tried it for tinnitus. It’s just another noise.
I hope you find a solution.
