Our 1990 ABI Marauder is brilliant. Nothing fancy, but
everything works as it should when it should.
Light,easy to tow,dry,warm,clean and comfortable.Plenty
of storage space too. The not much younger NR Tuscany awning that came with it goes up easily too.
NO It has not got a shower, hot water, alloy wheels, twin axles
or a built in television aerial .This means that we can arrive, pitch quickly and relax.without the Look at our outfit
IT'S BIGGER/BETTER/MORE EXPENSIVE than yours attitude which seems to be becoming the norm these days.
Enjoy yours,and all the best.
I purchased my 1981 Carlight Commmander 152EK last January from Ebay for £1000 and what a delight it is.
It had a small damp issue but was resealed completely and had a new roof light installed and the fabric reupholstered.
It has no damp whatsoever showing on my meter now and it was built to last.Everything works including piping hot water from the onboard tank.
The only thing it needed was two new tyres as they were older than 5 years.
Newer vans just don't seem to have character like older vans.

How do you know what the 'attitude' of your fellow caravanners is, or that they want you to look at their vans? We arrive, pitch quickly and relax - as you do. I do look at all caravans with interest - because I am interested in ALL caravans. I think you would only know if you had either a 'superiority' or 'inferiority' complex yourself - not whether others have them!
ours is a 1987 avondale quantock 5 birth 14 ft with shower, zig unit ,full oven fridge etc etc.Lovely interior,we bought it four years ago off a couple who used it for years towing it abroad, during this time towing in bad weather caused some water ingress through the o/s grab handle.
The couple told us they had repaired it with fibreglass on the inside corner and removed the grab handle,as i said we have had the van four years and have never had any problem.
I think that some times when your buying a cheap caravan you should be prepaired for some damp it does,nt mean the van is going to fall to bits and you can have many years service for little outlay.
p.s we are looking to buy a bigger van and so ours will be very cheap .
Ours is a 1989 Silverline GT12/2, we paid £600 for her two years ago from the original purchaser so it had been well loved and maintained. We love it. Some of the older vans are really worth taking a look at.

I have three sides, left, right and wrong - which one are you on?
Thanks for the free,(albeit erroneous), psycho- analysis.
I seem to have touched a raw nerve.
We tow our 'Older' Van to sites various, for weekends at least twice a month,to relax, unwind, and enjoy ourselves.
Meeting, chatting and socialising with as many other caravanners as we can forms an integral part of this.
Based on PERSONAL EXPERIENCE (not a complex) we have found that the VAST MAJORITY of those who do likewise have 'Older' Vans too, whereas, owners of new,top of range outfits who even acknowledge the existence of anyone not similarly equipped are the EXCEPTION rather than the NORM.
hi i just bought an 86 tornado well loved by previous owner came with all the water containers aqua role handles and a trolley steps supply cable arial and full awning and groundsheet new cushions and a nearly new microwave for £600 money well spent smallest van we have ever had but i love it will use asap
We love our 20 year old van. I recently asked my 7 year old nephew (my camping buddy) if we should sell it and buy a newer one. He was horrified at the thought. Incidentally the one thing I have noticed with newer vans is how drab the interior colours are. Seem to be nothing but black, brown and gray inside. We have multi coloured cushions and green curtains. Not everyone’s taste I know but it looks so cheerful and happy when we go inside

My last caravan was a 1988 Tornado XL we bought for £500. We used it for 4 years and sold it for a small profit. Not much, but at least in effect it cost us nothing. Depreciation is a word that is meaningless to us owners of older caravans. Having sold the Tornado we bought the 1992 Wisp that we now have, and it's lovely. It has everything modern caravans have, plus it has a character all of its own. From what I have heard from people on here about problems with very much newer caravans, it does make me wonder whether many of them will sill be giving such good service when they are 28 years old like our Elddis.
