The best way I know to avoid problems is to first, minimise disturbing the bottle and keep it upright at all times.
Second and most important, before connecting a new bottle, crack open the valve for a second and close, do this twice.

This is going to blast clear anything trapped in the neck of the valve rather than blasting it up into the regulator.

Stainless hoses won't help with this problem but with a 25 year life I think their not a total waste of money, if only from a safety point of view

As for Calorlite, yes there have been reports of problems over the last 12 months.

Hi

I have a simular issue with the regulator.  It started about 3 months ago roughly.

The gas supply becomes very week and only just heats a small pan of water on the hob.  I was going to get it replaced and will at some point but at £70 fitted I will wait.

The regulator is mount above my calor lite gas bottle so any residue should run back into the bottle.

All I do is leave it disconnected and only connect it when I need it (gas is only used for cooking).  Before I connect I open the valve to get rid of any oily stuff everything is perfect.

It had been fine for about 3 years befroe it started playing up and as the regulator does work if left disconnected until needed I am thinking that I might just replace the pig tail and see if that sorts it.

Cheers

Richard
