I only gave my home number which prepopulates in online forms when I start to type it in and, since other companies have been have been able to use so I know I gave the right number.

I have today had a very poorly written email from them, apologising and blaming human error i.e. as you say, Dorset Belle, they probably mis-dialled.

On the basis of their apology, I will give them another chance but, as they only do new for old cover up to 5 years old and our caravan is a 2001 model, we may be going elsewhere anyway.

Just a quick update - if anyone's interested!

Finally managed to speak to someone - very polite - asked lots of questions then said that their underwriter insisted on their being a barrier in front of our caravan for them to be able to quote.  I reiterated that the 'van will be spending its summer on a seasonal pitch and that I didn't think the park owners would allow us to concrete a hitch post into the grass, nor did I think they would install a gate just for our benefit!  No business for Caravan Guard!

I could see the sense if it was a particularly new, highly specced, highly sought after and desirable 'van, but it's a six year old Elddis Avante - bottom of their range!  OK, I know that means it would be easier for an opportunist thief to move on than something worth £30K but we've fitted a wheel lock, a hitch lock and it came with a (rudimentary) alarm that we'll be upgrading.

We got it covered with the company that insures the dealers we bought from - no hassle and no weird terms and conditions.

I'm going through getting quoes right now CGuards service was good but their price was a good £100 more expensive than others. Caravan club was even more than that. I've found something reasonable and now neeed to read the fine print. I dont intend taking it abroad yet or lending it to family and friends and I only want the market value of the caravan. Some policies are fab but I dont need alot of stuff they offer.
