Hi fatlad, I toured all last winter in a VW autohomes kompact, and even with blow heating the mornings were cold and damp, (Steel body and single glazing). Since seing the light and buying a well insulated, double glazed, centrally heated caravan, winter touring is comfy and a real pleasure, though a small porch awning is usefull for kicking off dirty wellies etc, and makes a great coolbox!

some sites dont allow awning in winter . the site we went to last new year didnt . i think it was something to do with the grass, not sure?. however i found a plastic storage box that was big enough for the shoes and kids wellies and it had a lid and slid just nice under the van . and i think it was only £2-99 or some silly price from tesco .

PS  this winter i am going to get some fleece material and some wadding i reckon it will cost about £20/30 and i am going to make some mattress enhancers for the kids bunks for extra warmth this time out. anyone who wants a try.

when you have the measurement for the bed size , and cut material .

place right sides of material together then place wadding on top . stitch around three sides leaving one side open .

then just turn like a pillowcase so right sides are out and stitch open end closed. you can then attach ties to corners or elastic and this will hold in place on the bed.

i am making my own as i priced them in the shops and its £20 for one single so its cheaper to make your own. also you can choose to make them as thick as you think will be comfortable for you as wadding comes in different thicknesses
