just my opinion but i think the two big clubs should have set aside a washing area for your motorhome or caravan, don't think the cost of install would be that high.you are already booked in so a pitch is guaranteed.you could say you need a wash on your van/motorhome when you get there or when free.this can be booked at the same time as your booking at a small cost.obviously peak times it would be closed as it's too busy. if you can not wash it at home or in storage this could be the answer.

I have recently sent a letter to the Camping & Caravanning Club 'Forum' mentioning this so I'm just waiting to hear from them to see what their reply is and to see if it gets published in due course in the Forum section of the club magazine. Personally, I think it would be a money spinner actually for both the major clubs as there is very little competition offering this service and would be a huge benefit for the members who are unable to clean their caravan, especially those kept in storage.
A few years back I suggested to a local caravan dealer that he installs a drive through wash bay where customers could take their caravan and clean it working from fixed safety platforms at a couple of differing hight so that roof and high sides can be easily reached. The idea being that the dealer could use it himself and charge customers helping to pay for it. The positive side for the dealer would be that customers would then get used to visiting his premises and buying accessories etc while paying for the wash etc.
He turned down the idea saying he did not want clients bringing their caravans to his yard and he was not prepared to improve the access. For various reasons he is no longer in business

I have the same problem - so far (only had the van one and a half seasons), I've washed it myself while on site, using a bucket of water with Fenwicks in it and a sponge
I've never done the roof (gawd knows what state that is in ) but we're booked on a couple of full service pitches this year, so I'm going to buy a long-handled brush and give it a decent going over. I'm going to try do the roof by standing on the caravan steps with my head through the main rooflight - not sure if that's going to work but will give it a go...

i do this for the central part of the roof.

What I do, is use a long step ladder and wash the roof by reaching to half way from side to side with a 'Karcher'. You shouldn't need to reach to far with the 'Karcher'. Get the awkward bits of green algae moss, with a sponge mop on a telescopic handle (you don't want to mess about on top of a ladder, be prepared!) then give it a blast with the 'Karcher', be careful though, they can be fierce, when the triggers pulled. Where the roof rounds to meet the vertical, you should be able to reach off the Caravan steps, which makes it safer. With Health and Safety in mind, it might be better to have someone to steady the ladder, or even, just to lend moral support in your quest to "scour ye olde van top"

We always wash our roof like this but use step ladders instead if we are in storage, I am not that tall No chance using the caravan steps.
I can feel an Alcatraz caravan washing party coming on! I reckon we should put some pressure on the owners actually - as David has said, we pay enough. Incidentally, have you fellow Alcatraz users had mice problems? We have, something terrible. nothing worse than arriving on site to discover your duvet has been eaten!!
Fort Knox never occurred to me at the time - the big gates just reminded me of Escape from Alcatraz!!
we are in row D - wrong end from you Trevor, I'm afraid......
Apologies for changing the subject of caravan washing but I just had to get this one in with reference to the previous post. We had a mouse once living in our caravan but since I installed one of these We haven't had any problems at all.

Apologies for the hi-jack! Never ever had a mice problem - up to the end of Feb. We're in Row F. OMG - What have I just said!!! I'll have to go up tomorrow to check.
Ooo David - you can wave at Bertha in Row D. you can spot her really easily, she's the Abbey Cabaret in between 2 Swift Challengers! And dead shiny, due to being washed last weekend.
Our mice seem to have done the decent thing and left. Hope they haven't moved to Row F!
Tell you what else Alcatraz needs. Rubbish bins and a loo. Mind you, I'm a girly.....

Philippa
Checked out Bertha this morning, Philippa - looks lovely. Glad we're not next to you - you'd show us up at the moment. No mice for us, thank goodness. Since I last went up, they have provided us with new 'wooded squares' to rest the jockey wheel on (replacing the rotten boards they took up some time ago. No sign of a tap or toilet though!! In fact, I had to do the 4 gates on the way out.
Amazing family weekend with old steam engines, classic car displays, market stalls, and full catering and bar. And camping on site - Save £25 by booking in advance.
