We shut our door purely because one of the dogs is an escape artist & I know I'd wake up & find she'd vanished, if we didnt have her I'd probably leave the top half open on warm nights.

If it's hot we open both rooflights & the window above the kitchen worktop where she can't reach.

We don't lock the door though.

she looks the size of most of mine put togethere lol think there only 1 of mine that can actul see over the door lol

It's not the GSD's that are the problem it's the 10" tall Jack russel! We've got a small cupboard by the door and she stands on there then launches herself out of the half opened door, she also tries to jump out of the windows too, she was a rescue dog & we think she's been used for rabbiting so the slightest movement outside & she's off

She's harder work than the other 3 put together.

No one would get into our caravan/awning without us knowing.  If we weren't woken up by the awning zip which is the loudest zip I have ever heard then our Yorkie would certainly wake us up barking and probably pinning an intruder to the floor by his ankles!!!!!

Dogs in the awning with fan heater on low if it's chilly, me in the caravan with the door closed. The awning at night is their space, the caravan is mine and that's how it will stay.

No I dont think we will be stacking either lol but its only two crates.  we only actually own one crate so far as the yellow lab has slept in the main unit with us last year.  (We only got him Jan 2010 and he was still quite young) It's the bigger black dog that has never been camping but she smells more than the lab so we are hoping that we can settle them both in the awning in cages. Plus we don't trust the black dog off the lead as she will run to other dogs and it scares people when they see a large dog resembling a rottie (she is a cross) running towards their little pooches lol.  (She is harmless but a little bosy like most females and with no recall!)

Both will use the one crate we have at home as we have one of the dog beds in there.  Just need to make the cover and buy the other crate now.!

Well I am intrigued by the having the crate and leaving the door open. !!

I was lazy and bought a crate cover but it is real thick canvass no draughts etc and we bought a fabric crate for the cocker spaniel which is lovely. we have stacked the crates with the cocker on top and it worked well. but she isnt very big to lift up. Would not fancy the lab or shepherd on top. lol.  I have found the covers seem to keep them cool in summer too although i never leave them in day time it too hot. Bought a bird cage bath thing which hangs on side of crate for water to stop them standing in water and getting bed wet. I have a car crate on loan at the moment though and have to admit it very handy just lifting the whole thing in and out of the car instead of folding and unfolding crates. Always take their coats too it gets surprisingly chilly I reckon over night #

I keep the crate flap open on the cover not the crate door its the caravan door i leave open so  can see the dogs and them see me mine would be out of a fabric creat the minet they hear the racing start it would last secons lol. my lot jump up to the top crates thank goodness allthough there whippets so not big. I made mine out of a cotton canvas and if it getsb realy hot i damp the cotton and that helps cool the dogs down through the day aswell ecpcily the black ones who feel the ehat even more. I think if i shut the caravan door with the dogs in the awaning i would be up checking every few minets

It was Bill earlier with the crate door open. Never thought of wetting the fabric to keep cool. would be good for the shepherd.

Must admit i'm surprised at how many of you leave your doors open i didn't realise anyone done it.
Mine gets firmly shut and locked i'm a chicken and that's with 3 adults and a Rottweiler in it
