The EXACT same thing happened to us last year at this time...we'd stopped to check everything over, set off again and the caravan came off the hitch, the break away cable didn't snap, but the attachment just opened up...caravan kept on going, veered out into the road, hit the back of the car and ended up with dented car and damaged front panel on caravan...scariest moment in our caravanning experience...
We'd done all the checks, was sure it was okay...we'd obviously missed something, but to this day do not know how it happened. Luckily, we'd only just set off, so thankfully no-one else was hurt or anything other than our car & caravan damaged.
