i think it depends where you are staying, and the age of the other caravanners. CC sites seem more friendly.

i stayed at site that i have stayed at many times before over the Easter break which is predominantly statics but has 9 touring pitches and a camping field. not one other caravanner spoke to me. there was a couple with a vintage caravan right next to me and i would have loved to have found out more about it but when the owners passed it was strictly eyes down, march past and not even say hello.

some other passing people did say hello although they were not in touring caravans. we have stayed at this site before and found more friendly people. but this Easter there were no people camping in tents and not some many in touring caravans.

i stayed on a site in Cornwall last summer which was mainly people with tents who spoke to each other but didnt seem to speak to us. but we stopped in Dorset and the other carravanners were friendly and helpful.

i think the choice of site has lot to do with it.

I was on a site in Cromer and a caravanner had burnt his clutch out and had great difficulty getting it to a repairer, when he found a dealer who could repair it was 20 miles away but he had some issues with what to accept from the repairer. Well he confronted me with the problem. As an Engineer and with experience of his dilemma he poured the problems out. His first was getting to the car the second was he did not understand what the problems were. It had cost him 3 days of his holiday so far and £300 transport fees now he faced a bill of £1000/1500 for the repair.

His wife told us he was in business and they go to America for their holidays in the summers and that she had an £8000 ring on her finger etc etc. I could see the the problems so I offered to take him the 20 miles and discuss the problem with the repairer to sort it for him. On the way back he offered £5 for the petrol and when we got back said thanks and then never spoke to us again for the rest of our stay - when we were leaving he slipped out of the van to take the dog for a walk and that was the last we saw of them. I tell you that is the last time I will help anyone when camping - I don't want to know is my take.

John

The worst we come across in France are Motor homers, when they arrive it is sometimes a crush to get on very busy sites so when it comes to getting out and about they seem to target caravan people so they can get lifts when it suits - they want the benefits of a motor home but fall back on caravans to fill the shortfall - hence very pleasant, warm and friendly at first. Most don't use the water disposal areas because it is struggle so they tip the waste water straight on the floor - phoo what a stink.

Hi Sparky
I'm just looking for the clues as to what makes a good considerate camper/holidaymaker is it a sign of how they behave at home if so the Brits are the worst - don't even mention the Brits to a Spaniard - it's all about booze and sex for the young and how cheap they can get stuff for the older - ask what the Dutch think about the booze but don't mention sex - they beat us.

Lol it's quite sad that us Brits have quite the tarnished reputation nowadays!

Those lovely youthful Ones on their 18-30, serve their purpose to the next set generation, stories myths the what not to do, the who to do lol

Dear OP - sorry I don't mean to thread hijack here and I fully apologise in advance x
