If he is flying in, how will he be able to tow the caravan home? Sounds very dodgy to me, bu then again we had a guy travel from Scotland to buy a caravan from us, to tow back to Ireland. Paid in Scottish pounds and everything was fine. However I had his landline number which when confirmed with BT matched up with the address supplied. You can't be too careful these days. If it is a scam, I wonder if you could claim from your insurance company?
If you read the threads, they are also buying a 4 x 4 car here to tow it with.
HI, yes I am still alive!! Just got back, had quite an eventful day. When we got to the bank to pay the money in - I thought I was on the home straight, but guess what, there was only £8000 there, short of £1600!! He rang him brother who was in Bristol collecting the 4x4, and it turned out he had it in his bag.
I did not know what to think and was annoyed as when he got to us it would be later than midday and the bank would be shut. I wanted them to be checked you see. Anyway i then remembered that I have a Tesco bank account and could pay it in with them at any time. So we had to wait a couple of hours with the guy who was really nice and was a bit put off i think by my demands!
We had a few technical hitches but eventually he drove off in to the sunset, and I have all my cash!! yipee!! It was quite sad to see it go though!
I hardly slept last night, I am glad that I was cautious though, so thanks for your advice and words of wisdom.
We are now caravanless, but in a few years time you may see us back!!

Phew! All's well that end's well. Sorry to see you go Cath, please don't let your recent experiences put you off for ever - imagine if you had been away this weekend eh? We have just taken a drive up to North Devon to check out a site and it is roasting up there.
Its good to be suspicious and have all avenues covered in this sort of transaction. But if you have a buyer , let the deal go through but stick to your guns of receiving payment that is valid for you. The relief when you sell privately and everything goes right is great. And you normally receive more money selling a Caravan yourself than selling straight to a Dealer (the money I was offered by a dealer was half of what I sold caravan for privately), However I know that people tend to sell to a Dealer so as not to go through the potential stress of having a transit encampment dweller looking at your Caravan and being ripped off.
Glad everything went well.
