I have decided to have air conditioning on my van and while searching the net, I came across this website. www.koolcamping.co.uk . The design seems to be good and there is an obvious advantage in not adding the weight to your van while travelling.
My questions are, have any of the community used these units or know anyone that has. How loud is 48 decibels? Has any one dealt with this company.
The loss of £540 is an expensive lesson to learn if the units are rubbish!
I'm no expert...but googled and found this quote regarding mobile air con units
" okay first things first. Air conditioning isn't equal. There is a lot of right old rubbish out there flooding the market.Think of it like car manufacturers.
Stick to a Japanese manufacturer -you will recognise most of the names. One you might not is Daikin (my personal favourite.)
We control temperature and noise, the cheaper kit is very noisy -48Db is loud. A Daikin for example is very quiet -35Db and the outdoor is exceptionally quiet too. I can pretty much G.tee you will not get any complaints inside or out with one of these. "
Hi, I have one of these units. I used it in France last year.
They are ok! If you go out for the day and leave in on, you can tell the difference when returning. The wife and kids complained it was too cold! But I like cold. ;-)Helped a lot on the sticky nights.
They have been around for years on the mediteranian area's and have only just started importing into this country in the last year or so.
With regards to the noise, they are a bit noisy on full speed, but not too bad at low setting. Bit like a desk fan really.
just been outside with my noise level meter, my car, petrol multi and the neighbours, petrol focus (seperatly) measure about 50Db at tickover, standing in front of the car, as a comparison, a wedding style disco usually measures somwhere round 100Db, and an electric drill at about 80Db, although reading the site, it doesnt state at what distance the measurements were taken, its usually at 1M, in which case the sound level will drop by approx 2-3Db for each meater you move aways from it.
hope this helps.
