We came back from the New Forest yesterday and to make the  journey back home go a bit quicker we decided to count how many caravans and motorhomes we saw along the way.

The journey from the New Forest back home took us an hour and a half and in total we counted 381

I wonder how many we would have seen had we gone away for the easter hols?

loopyou007,

That's incredible, but I am not surprised.

I have been reading through various articles and the caravan/camping/motorhome industry is going through a very bouyant stage at the moment with most of them producing up to 20% increases in sales demand. It just goes to show that the overseas holiday trends look like slowing down as people are fed up being ripped of with so called holiday "offers" and free child places etc. and are now opting for an alternative kind of holiday which, they can have throughout the year and, for many years to come, weather permitting.

I also read that caravan/camping parks are getting more and more difficult to get onto these days, which proves the sales figures mentioned above.

We will all probably continue to have our holidays abroad I suppose but, I must admit I for one haven't missed them over the past couple of years and have enjoyed the caravan and meeting people far more enjoyable than cheap foreign beers and hassled to go into bars, restaurants etc.

Jamsie

Hi loopylou,

I drove along the A47 Norwich-Kings Lyn road on Wednesday (on the way to buy my new tow car :-)) and saw loads of caravans on the road... same story on a drive up to Sheringham on Monday...

ah, Easter holidays in Norfolk... and after watching the news last night and seeing all those poor souls enduring airport departure lounge hell, I knew why :-)

Heather

Hi

We got our towbar fitted on Wednesday, and although not indicative of caravans necessarily, the place that did it were averaging 15 new towbars a day, the glasgow branch had just taken on new staff cos of demand and were averaging 20 a day. This over a 5 1/2 day week.
